Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

We'd booked ourselves on a trip to Tigres, on the Rio de la Plata delta. The trip starts almost as a city tour as we travel to one of the stations just out of the city to catch the coastal train. The train ride is greater than 10 but less than 15 minutes long and we disembark at San Isidro and have half an hour to look round - we go round the church, the restrooms and have an ice cream (in that order).

Everybody back on the bus and we head off for Tigres. The old port first, for a walk about, then the new port to get the cruiser that will take us an hour's ride around the rivers and inlets that make up part of the delta. There are lots of houses, each built on their own island - some of which look like they will be flooded come the next really high tide - already there are quite a few up for sale. They look fantastic in the sun, but I bet it's miserable when it is wet. Also, there are loads of boats (and associated wash) full of tourists whizzing past every day.

They get their provisions from "floating supermarkets" - like the old mobile shops of yesteryear in the UK.

In the afternoon, we completed our Evita pilgrimage and visited the Museum located in one of the former "Foundation Eva Peron" mansions which is dedicated to her. The museum is very good, though it gives a very clinical portrayal - one of an almost "squeaky clean" life. But there is a nice balance of artefacts and audio visual in its presentation.

Plaza Italia - The Subte to get to the museum

Our knowledge and confidence/experience in using the underground (Subte) the first time meant that we could speedily get to and from the museum from the hotel. There must be something about us - it doesn't matter where we are, people ask us directions. Here was no exception - at Plaza Italia station were were asked directions to the Evita Museum - no problem, as it happened it was after we'd been.

We stopped off to buy some Argentinean wine to take home, then made it back to the hotel just in time to leave for the start of our 24 hours of travelling to get home again.

We arrived home 10.00pm Sunday night did a few jobs like unpack and put some washing on, download all the digital pictures and have a look at them and potter around looking at souvenirs. Got to bed at 2.30am and got up for work six hours later.
